This photo of Tommie Smith and John Carlos with their controversial "black fist salute" on the victory stand, is the most well known of the 1968 Olympics and probably of all Olympic games. The reasons for their salute are well known but the "appropriateness" of their actions is debated today.

Nevertheless, Tommis Smith and John Carlos are enduring as symbols and as people to the International Medalist Association.
